The canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis, a teenager from Italy famed for his devout Catholic faith, is set to proceed following Pope Francis’s recent announcement. Alongside other potential candidates for sainthood, this miracle attributed to Acutis has been officially recognized by Pope Francis, thereby clearing his path to canonization.

Born in London in 1991, Acutis created a website to document Eucharistic miracles and continued to showcase his deep faith until his untimely death from leukemia at age 15 in Italy. In 2020, he was beatified following the recognition of a miracle, attributed to his intercession, by the Vatican.

The news has been met with delight from many, including author and Vatican journalist Courtney Mares who stated that, “Carlo will become the first millennial saint in the Catholic Church,” providing Christians with a modern example of sanctity.

Acutis’s life and dedication to his faith have been hailed as inspirational, especially his application of technology in a spiritually healthy way. There has been emphasis on his commitment to raising awareness about the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Despite his contemporary upbringing, Acutis stood apart by turning everyday things, like internet and pop culture, into tools for evangelism.

Once Acutis is canonized, he will be officially recognized as a saint for living an exceptional life of faith. The second miracle that led to his canonization involved the miraculous recovery of a young Costa Rican woman who suffered a serious head injury. While the date for Acutis’s canonization has not yet been released, speculation suggests it could happen on the anniversary of his death this October.
