Canadian Christian rapper Chris Mackness, known by the stage name C-DOT, has taken a stand on abortion with a new pro-life song titled “The Cry”. The song, created from the perspective of an unborn child about to be aborted, endeavors to capture the emotional turmoil of those who become victims of abortion. The song is seen as controversial given the emotive and divisive nature of abortion, but its positive reception indicates that pro-life sentiment is widespread but often unexpressed due to societal pressure, according to Mackness.

The song has been written to convey the tragedy and truth of abortion without outrightly attacking pro-choice advocates. Mackness took six months to carefully craft lyrics that accurately depict abortion’s reality yet are sensitive to potential listeners. In the making process, the song, particularly the chorus, was emotionally overwhelming for Mackness, triggering his sobbing as he felt the spiritual presence of aborted children.

Mackness’s move follows an increasing rise in abortions in France and a legal push to constitutionally enshrine the right to abortion. His song has sparked a discussion about the approach to abortion and the value of life. Despite the potential controversy and being discouraged from delving into pro-life songwriting, Mackness expressed a readiness to produce more music on similar themes in the future, reaffirming his commitment to promoting the intrinsic value of human life from conception to natural death.
