In California, parents are facing an erosion of their rights, according to Karen England, the president of the Capitol Resource Institute. A bill has been introduced that would consider failing to affirm a child’s self-identified gender as abuse in custody battles. This means that if parents do not affirm their child’s gender confusion, they could risk losing custody or visitation rights. The California State PTA is even backing this bill, aligning itself with this harmful ideology.

Additionally, California has mandated sex education in schools, removing local control and denying parents the ability to opt out. Local school boards are also being stripped of the right to choose alternative sex education programs. The erosion of parental rights is further exemplified by a bill that allows minors to emancipate themselves at the age of 12, without parental notice or consent, by simply stating that they don’t feel safe at home.

The fight for parental rights in California is not limited to that state alone. Other states, such as Tennessee, are also facing similar challenges. Parents and school boards need to be vigilant and proactive in protecting the rights of families. Policies like the one implemented by the Chino Valley Unified School District, which requires parental notification when a child identifies as a different gender, can serve as a model for other districts and states.

The work of organizations like the Capitol Resource Institute is crucial in defending parental rights and advocating for the well-being of children. They provide resources, support, and initiatives to protect families and promote parental involvement in education. It is essential for parents to stay informed, get involved, and stand up for their rights in the face of such encroachments.
