Wokeness grips the U.S. army: putting political correctness over protecting the nation

After watching the latest recruitment campaign for the U.S. Army, one could be forgiven for thinking that the United States military has entered the Twilight Zone. The new campaign, known as “The Calling” and composed of 2-3 minute videos explaining the backstories and reasons for joining of five service members, is the dream of every leftist who supports the woke takeover of the army; indeed, the campaign is even more politically correct than the recent recruitment videos put out by the CIA. It seems that the military and intelligence services, the last government holdouts against political correctness, have finally succumbed to the woke mob.

In one of the recruitment videos, “Emma” tells us that she was “raised by two moms” and had a “fairly typical childhood.” She also lets us know that she “marched for [LGBT] equality” and that despite suffering an injury, one of her moms was able to “get back on her feet eventually standing at the alter to marry my other mom.”

In another video, we meet Jennifer, the child of immigrants from the Dominican Republic who was forced to live in a three-bedroom apartment with ten family members. Her dad attempted suicide and when she was a teenager her mom sent her back to the Dominican Republic for a year to avoid trouble and “appreciate the life I had.” There she lived in a house “with a tin roof and tourists used to drive by and throw candy at us.”

Then we meet Rickie, a first-generation immigrant from Haiti, and David, an Asian-American who struggled in school but tells us “it doesn’t take a genius to become an army pilot.” Finally, we meet Janeen, an African-American whose father, “having served in the army during the Vietnam era responding to civil unrest,” would not bless her joining the military. She then decided upon a singing career, performing first in Las Vegas and then “after a performance at the Apollo Theater in New York I was invited to sing for a top cruise line.” Eventually her dad relented and she joined the army.

The one story we do not hear is that of a white male from a traditional family, even though white males make up the majority of the army and will continue to do so for years to come. But since the army is committed to critical race theory, white males are oppressors whose stories are not worth telling. And had a white male been included, to have had him from a traditional married mother-father family would have been anathema to the woke military, as that would not support the narrative that all family forms are equal, despite research clearly showing that children do best when raised in a healthy traditional family.

America’s adversaries in Beijing, Pyongyang, and Tehran are smiling to themselves today as they see that our armed forces are more committed to recruiting based on identity—whether that of race, sex, ethnicity, and the like—rather than on character and competence. With both the CIA and now our military beholden more to wokeness than to protecting American citizens, we can no longer sleep soundly at night.
