Where is the conservative MacKenzie Scott?

MacKenzie Scott did at least one thing very right in her life: she ended up being married to one of the wealthiest men in the world, Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon. (With a net worth of almost $190 billion, Bezos is currently the second richest man in the world, behind Elon Musk of Tesla.) After her divorce from Bezos in 2019, Scott received assets worth over $30 billion at the time, with her current net worth around $50 billion. Not a bad bargain for 26 years of marriage to a strange-looking guy.

Not needing so much money, Scott proudly signed The Giving Pledge, which is a pledge made by some of the world’s richest people to donate the majority of their money to charity. Other signers include Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg, Ted Turner, and T. Boone Pickens, among others.

Living up to her pledge, since 2020 Scott has donated $12 billion to charity; tragically, however, much of that money has been given to anti-family, anti-life, and anti-America groups. For example, in her latest round of giving in 2022 (where she doled out almost $4 billion), she gave $275 million to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the largest gift ever to that organization. In the press release on March 23, 2022, announcing the gift, Planned Parenthood President and CEO Alexis Johnson declared:

“We are incredibly grateful for Ms. Scott’s extraordinary philanthropic investment in Planned Parenthood, as a critical part of the public health infrastructure. There is no question that we are living through a crisis for sexual and reproductive health and rights in this country. As we face the most serious attacks on access to reproductive health care that we’ve seen in a generation, we know this moment requires us to be innovative and to double down on our efforts to ensure everyone has equitable access to health care, including abortion.”

(Even though minorities account for 2/3 of all abortions in America, this is still not “equitable enough” for Planned Parenthood and Scott.)

Scott also donated $133.5 million to Communities in Schools, an organization committed to critical race theory and instituting “diversity, equity, and inclusion” in our schools. In the press release on February 3, 2022, announcing the gift, President and CEO of Communities In Schools Rey Saldana declared:

“This unrestricted gift allows us to combat the inequities in public education and reimagine the way schools operate and show up for all students. Our national goal is to bring our model inside of every one of the 70,000 Title I-eligible schools in the country; currently, we operate in 3,000 schools – so we still have a long way to go, and we will need ongoing support to get there.”

What are critical race theory and the “diversity, equity, and inclusion” that Communities in Schools supports? They are both theories that hold America is and always has been racist, that all white people are guilty of either overt or unconscious bias, that structural racism pervades America, that if you support color-blind and merit-only policies you are racist, and that to be “anti-racist” you must support policies that overtly discriminate against white people, among other things.

In addition, in prior years Scott gave tens of millions of dollars to LGBT groups, including $46 million just in the summer of 2020.

All in all, MacKenzie Scott is opposed to the pro-family, pro-life, and pro-America movement. But after the amounts given to groups opposed to this movement, the real tragedy of this story is that there is no MacKenzie Scott (or Bill Gates, George Soros, or Mark Zuckerberg) on the right making massive donations to pro-family, pro-life, and pro-America organizations. (Most of the donated money on the right tends to support economic conservatism (i.e., tax policy, business regulation, oil drilling, trade policy, etc.), rather than social conservatism (i.e., issues related to the family, life, religious liberty, patriotism, etc.).) Indeed, pro-family, pro-life, and pro-America groups like the International Organization for the Family live on small donations from stay-at-home moms, homeschooling parents, committed Christians and Jews, and seniors concerned about the declining state of our families and our country. With such disparities in the monies given to the two sides over the past five decades, it is a miracle that the pro-family, pro-life, and pro-America side is still in the fight. Let us pray that over the next few years God will raise up billionaires who will be committed to social conservativism so that we can vanquish the forces of evil arrayed against us. If this fails to materialize, leftist elites like MacKenzie Scott will continue to decimate our forces in this battle for the souls of our citizens and country.
