The events occurred on August 7, 2022, in the Church of San Bartolomé (Murcia) when two men interrupted a religious celebration with shouts and made obscene gestures at the altar. The Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers pointed out two alleged offenses under the Penal Code: interruption of worship (art. 523) and profanation (art. 524).

Christian Lawyers has filed a complaint before the Murcia Court of Instruction against the two young men, aged 24 and 27, of Estonian nationality, who interrupted the mass.

President of Christian Lawyers Polonia Castellanos pointed out that “this is a clear violation of the fundamental right to religious freedom of the faithful who were celebrating mass and of all Christians”. She added that “these are violent attacks against Christians, and we must use all the resources of the rule of law so that they do not go unpunished and do not happen again.”
