A disturbing case has unfolded involving 22-year-old Penelope Convertino, a woman who has started identifying as a man, who was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn. Convertino’s high school yearbook from 2019 reveals that she was a member of the Riverdale High School Gay-Straight-Trans Alliance (GSTA), highlighting her early involvement in gender-related advocacy.
According to the Department of Justice, Convertino visited Blackburn’s office in May and left a voicemail stating: “I’m gonna kill Marsha Blackburn… I’m gonna blow up her head on national TV… her brains will be splattered behind her.” These threats represent a violent and unacceptable assault on civic discourse that must be met with legal accountability.
Despite the severity of the allegation, U.S. Magistrate Barbara Holmes granted Convertino pretrial release under strict conditions. Convertino must wear an ankle monitor, remain confined at home, and may only leave for limited authorized purposes such as school or work. Additional release terms include surrendering passports, avoiding weapons, attending court-ordered mental health services, and maintaining no contact with Senator Blackburn or her staff.
The connection to the GSTA raises questions about the environments that may have influenced Convertino. The 2019 yearbook image shows her participating in the Alliance, a school-supported group aimed at supporting LGBT youth and allies.
