Texas abortion clinic transformed into parenting support center

In a profound victory for the pro-life movement, a former Texas abortion clinic has been transformed into a center providing vital support for parents, demonstrating the power of local pro-life activists. The McAllen Pregnancy Center (MPC), supported by Texas Right to Life, has taken over a facility that once housed a Whole Woman’s Health (WWH) abortion clinic.

The landmark event occurred in the wake of the Supreme Court’s historic decision in 2022 to uphold state abortion bans, marking the end of Roe v. Wade. Following the ruling, the WWH clinic went on the market and was purchased by the Peruvian Alliance, a group of doctors led by MPC board member, Dr. Luis Alberto Rosas. In a strategic move, they then sold the building to MPC, much to the surprise and disappointment of WWH chief Amy Hagstrom Miller who had been expecting a family practice center.

Under the leadership of MPC founder, Yolanda Chapa, the facility now provides pregnancy tests, counseling services, parenting classes, and baby supplies, among other essential services for parents. While the center does not diagnose, they are able to refer to pro-life OB/GYNs, ensuring every client leaves with a doctor’s appointment and help applying for Medicaid, if needed.

Chapa, a steadfast advocate for the unborn, shared her 17-year journey standing outside the former abortion clinic regardless of weather conditions. She attributes the transformation of the facility into a pro-life center to divine intervention, envisioning it as a beacon of hope and renewal for the community.

The pro-abortion lobby continues to attempt to undermine the sanctity of life, with tactics such as easing access to abortion pills, lobbying for states to codify “rights” to abortion, and making certain states safe havens for those seeking to sidestep pro-life laws. Despite these challenges, and as the debate over public opinion on abortion continues, pro-lifers recognize the growing need to offer viable, compassionate alternatives to abortion, showing their dedication to supporting not only unborn lives, but also the lives of the women carrying them.
