Alvaro Vega, known by his stage name Communion, recently launched a compelling pro-life rap song and accompanying music video titled “Blood Cries Out,” depicting the poignant reality of abortion. The song delves into the narratives of two women, illustrating how abortion significantly impacts their lives. One of the women, had she not been aborted, might have potentially cured cancer and saved her mother’s life. The other, a teenage girl, grapples with the weighty decision of an unwanted pregnancy, eventually considering adoption as an alternative.

The lyrics of the song emphasize the sanctity of life as endowed by the Creator under the Fifth Commandment. Communion reflects on the consequences for those who don’t repent and references the paradoxical use of money for funding abortions in a country where “In God We Trust” is printed. The song concludes with a powerful reminder that each child lost to abortion has a heavenly Father and will never be forsaken.

Collaborating with fellow Christians, Joe Salant and Jon Meenk, Vega co-wrote the song’s impactful lyrics and produced the music. He stressed the song’s relevance in a time where pro-abortion advocates are intensifying their efforts, particularly post the overturning of Roe v. Wade, emphasizing the ongoing need to abolish abortion and shed light on its intrinsic evil.

Vega outlined the diverse audience the song targets, intending to reach women contemplating abortion, those who’ve experienced the procedure without healing or forgiveness, as well as individuals either supporting or uncertain about the issue. He noted the overwhelmingly positive response received so far, especially from women affected by abortion and committed pro-life supporters.

Despite his prior music being characterized by a more positive and catechetical tone, Vega views “Blood Cries Out” as a distinct yet impactful piece of work, marking a shift from his usual repertoire. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on such a significant project, believing it stands as some of his best work.

Vega also shared his personal journey, highlighting a transformation from creating music with less Christian ideals, influenced by artists like Eminem, to dedicating his talent exclusively to Jesus after a profound encounter with Christianity. His endeavors have evolved into a hip-hop evangelization ministry, marked by performances at events like World Youth Day and his continuous commitment to incorporating Scripture and theology into his music.

“Blood Cries Out” represents Vega’s debut pro-life song, but he expressed a desire for it not to be his last. His longstanding aspiration to produce a pro-life song found realization through this collaboration, indicating a potential for future projects with a similar profound impact.
