Parents in Oregon are expressing outrage over the “Oregon Student Health Survey,” administered by the Oregon Health Authority, which probes sixth graders on their sexual orientation and gender identity. The anonymous questionnaire, intended to gauge students’ well-being and school experiences, includes options like “homosexual,” “genderfluid,” “Two Spirit,” “demigirl/demiboy,” and “agender,” allowing multiple selections.
Many parents, including Portland-area father Chuck Gonzales, view the survey as inappropriate and intrusive, accusing it of intentionally confusing young children with LGBT ideology. Gonzales, featured in a Fox News interview, discovered the survey online and helped other parents opt out, claiming initial notifications were inadequate. He described the questions as “weird and sick and gross,” noting his son had no understanding of the terms but recognized their oddity. The Hillsboro School District confirmed sending advance notices via ParentSquare and hard copies and processing opt-out requests, ensuring non-participating students, like Gonzales’s son, were excused.
The survey’s demographics section also covers ethnicity, home life, and health, with sexual orientation choices including heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual/aromantic, and queer. This survey represents government overreach, indoctrinating children with left-wing ideologies on sexuality.This controversy aligns with broader U.S. educational debates, including a recent $650,000 settlement in Oregon’s Grants Pass School District for teachers fired over objections to transgender policies.
