In a message sent to the apostolic nunciature in Mexico on September 28, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin communicated the pontiff’s affection and support on the occasion of XIV World Congress of Families (WCF). The letter was read during the opening plenary session of the WCF and iFamNews brings it here for our readers, translated from Spanish.

Eminence,

As per the mandate received from the Secretary of State, I would like to send you the following message:

“To His Eminence Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop [primate] of Mexico.

The Holy Father sends cordial greetings to Your Eminence, the participants and organizers of the XIV World Congress of Families, being held in Mexico City from September 30 to October 2, focusing on the theme of supporting the family in this complex world.

God, in His infinite and merciful love, wanted the family to constitute a community of life with a distinctive autonomous consistency, a community of people who love, talk, sacrifice for others and defend life, especially that of the frailest and the weakest.

With these sentiments, Pope Francis, as he accompanies you in prayer, imparts that these days of reflection will be an appeal to support families, with care and affection, especially those in difficulty, those forced to leave their homeland, those that have no home or work or that, for different reasons, suffer from the crises that threaten our world.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State.”

I take this opportunity to renew my congratulations to you, in the Lord

Msgr. Roberto Lucchini, chargé d’affaires, a.i.
