Former Green Liberal Party (GLP) politician Sanija Ameti—a Bosnian-born Muslim and leftist activist—has been convicted by a Zurich court for her blasphemous act of shooting targets depicting Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. On January 29, 2026, Judge Hugo Kronauer fined her 3,500 Swiss Francs ($4,563) for disturbing freedom of religion and endangering religious peace, highlighting the grave insult to Christianity’s core figures: “There was undoubtedly a disregard for faith,” as “the two most central figures of Christianity were shot several times in the head.”
The outrage erupted in September 2024 when Ameti posted photos of herself using air gun practice on images from a Koller catalog, riddling sacred depictions with bullets. Facing backlash, she apologized: “I didn’t pay attention to the content of the pictures. That wasn’t right. I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart if I offended anyone!” and deleted the posts. Yet, her defense attorney Peter Bettoni claimed it stemmed from childhood trauma—witnessing her brother’s death in the Bosnian War—as a “cry of pain,” a flimsy excuse that failed to sway the court on intent.
Ameti resigned from her GLP role in Zurich, was expelled from the party, and lost her PR job at Farner. The Zurich public prosecutor sought a steeper 12,500 Swiss Francs ($16,297) for the “public and malicious insult” to believers. Only the far-left Operation Libero defended her as a “politician, co-president, and friend,” despite admitting her actions were “wrong and inappropriate.”
This conviction exposes the radical left’s contempt for Christian heritage, where desecration masquerades as personal expression.
