The pro-life organization 40 Days for Life is holding a 40-day prayer vigil outside abortion facilities in various countries to mark the Lent.

Politicians have targeted the group because the organization also frequents abortion centers in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Pforzheim and Stuttgart, which issue those certificates that, under current law, entitle pregnant women and doctors to perform non-punishable prenatal infanticide, writes Die Tagespost daily.

The so-called traffic light coalition in Germany, consisting of the Social Democratic Party, Allince 90/The Greens and Free Democratic Party, classify the actions as “sidewalk nuisance” and want to ban them. Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus has announced a bill to give pregnant women seeking abortions unhindered access to counseling centers and facilities that perform abortions.

However, 40 Days for Life has so far been successful in overturning bans on prayer vigils imposed through decrees by individual municipalities, thanks to legal action.

The law does not allow patronizing counseling for pregnant women, and according to the ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court, the embryo also has dignity and a right to life from the moment of its conception. A “right to abortion”, which cannot exist anyway, would be incompatible with the Basic Law. Although abortion advocates argue that pregnant women make an autonomous and self-determined decision to have a prenatal infanticide after careful consideration of all the circumstances, a legal ban on prayer vigils would refute one of their most important narratives.
