On International Women’s Day, the Italian pro-family association Family Day–Defending Our Children presented its review of this anniversary:
“Women’s sensitivity as added value in commitment to the common good. This is the contribution that so many women who have worked with the Italian pro-family movement and contributed to the growth and affirmation of Family Day itself give to politics and the world of associations. Indeed, women’s ability to listen, care and mediate emerge in increasingly complex contexts such as those of our modern societies.
March 8 has unfortunately been tinged with ideological aspects and has been exploited by feminist movements that have leveraged the opposition between men and women. The claims of these politicized realities have disengaged women from their natural prerogatives and brought forth organized minority claims. An ongoing juxtaposition that has conflated motherhood and work, professional fulfillment and longing for filiation, freedom of choice and custody of life.
While this ideological wave waned, the Italian pro-life and pro-family circles were the arena where the commitment of many women capable of showing another way to the enhancement of femininity brewed slowly. Wanting to use today’s jargon, true ‘women’s empowerment’ has been cultivated by women who have been able to recognize and enhance women’s prerogatives and who have experimented with new formulas to be able to reconcile them with a new prominence in the third sector, in the voluntary sector and also in the complex Italian political system.”
