The mass shooter at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, a man with gender dysphoria who “transitioned” to a woman. Westman died by suicide at the scene following the attack, which occurred during a school Mass and left at least two children dead and several others injured.
Footage believed to have been posted by Westman onto YouTube just hours before the shooting revealed extremist ideation and disturbing content. In the video, he displays a notebook filled with text in both English and Russian, shows schematics of a church interior, and handles firearms with brutal messages scrawled on them—phrases such as “Kill Donald Trump,” “For the Children,” “Defend Equality,” and one seemingly referencing a mass shooter. His notebook and footage also reveal disturbing praise for violent acts and mass shooters, including admiration for Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara condemned the atrocity as “a deliberate act of violence against innocent children,” acknowledging the overwhelming horror of firing into a church filled with families and worshippers. Cardinal Raymond Burke offered prayers on behalf of the Catholic community, invoking God’s mercy and healing over the injured and bereaved.
This attack not only devastates lives but also shows how radical identity ideology and violent extremism go hand in hand. With transgender violence too often minimized in public discourse, Westman’s actions demand rigorous examination and recognition of the immensly damaging effect transgender ideology is having on society.
