43-year-old Australian author Craig Silvey—infamous for his pro-trans novels aimed at children—was arrested on January 13, 2026, at his Fremantle home. Western Australia police raided the property, seizing devices, and charged him with possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material. Authorities caught him “actively engaging” online with fellow predators during the bust, underscoring the dangers lurking behind so-called “progressive” facades.
Silvey appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court that day, where prosecutors fought bail due to his uncooperative stance and flight risk. Magistrate Thomas Thomas granted it reluctantly, with a $100,000 surety, $100,000 personal undertaking, and stringent conditions: no leaving the state, no child-related work, and internet use restricted to essentials like legal or medical needs. Unable to post surety immediately, Silvey stayed locked up. His next hearing is February 10.
Silvey rose to fame with his 2009 bestseller Jasper Jones, a staple in Australian schools, but his 2021 novel Honeybee—featuring a 14-year-old boy identifying as a girl, entangled with predators, self-harm, and a “found family” including a drag queen and suicidal man—epitomizes the grooming concerns conservatives have long raised about transgender indoctrination in youth literature. Silvey collaborated with trans activist groups like TransFolk of Western Australia for “authenticity,” promoted the book during Trans Awareness Week, and insisted on she/her pronouns for the fictional child. It even spawned school “Honeybee Clubs” as LGBT “safe spaces” for minors, potentially exposing kids to harmful ideologies under the guise of inclusivity.
A staunch trans ally, Silvey pushed for government-funded gender surgeries in 2021, claiming they “save lives”—a narrative that ignores the irreversible damage and regret many experience, while distracting from real child protection. Post-arrest, Education Minister Sabine Winton called the charges “deeply concerning” and yanked Silvey’s books from the 2026 curriculum for review. The City of Subiaco stripped him of its Young Writers Award patronage, a small step toward accountability. This case highlights the hypocrisy and risks in the radical left’s push to normalize gender confusion among children, often shielding predators while conservatives fight to safeguard innocence and traditional values.
