One question all should ask themselves, in the deep, the very deep of their hearts, be they secular or believer, agnostic or religious, is: What kind of society we ended up building?
The first cause of death in the world is abortion. We die less, much less, from diseases, smoking, alcohol, road accidents, murders and wars. In 2019, the silent holocaust of abortion—‒according to the World Health Organization, using data processed by the well-known and authoritative website of statistics Worldometers—cost 42.4 million victims. A sad record of 2019, but one that follows a long trend. How many abortions have already been performed in these first 22 days of the year 2020 can be seen by everyone here, updated minute by minute.
Whole countries are slowly sliding into nothingness, swallowed up in a demographic chasm that forecasts only extinction. In Europe, the birth rate is 1.3 children per woman, well below the 2.1 needed for natural generational replacement. The numbers vary according to country, but since 2008 the trend has been declining throughout the Old Continent; in Russia, for example, it’s frightening. Experts call it “demographic winter”, and it freezes the blood in your veins.
Not a single day passes without some new form of harassment for the family conceived and institutionalized in this or that country: starting from divorce—now considered normal almost everywhere—the family as in institution suffers daily assaults which, under the shape of attacks to parenting, freedom of education, and economic sovereignty, gradually and inexorably erode its strength and endurance. But a society that is not a family of families is only a mass of monads, acting more or less madly, which confusedly stir without any horizon, constantly clashing; and in fact our world ages, slows down, loses hope.
Families are also attacked by unnatural lifestyles such as homosexuality, while “transgenderism” is considered the new normal almost everywhere. Add to this overflowing pornography, and drugs as a symbol of final human liberation, and the resulting picture is simply chilling.
And even once we manage to save our neck, dribbling in this absurd landscape, we have then always to face the last obstacle: euthanasia, promoted and imposed, even with an eugenic logic, by an increasingly totalitarian cultural, legal, political and medical power base.
Yes, voices and efforts of an opposite sign arise, voices and efforts still convinced of the sublimity of human life and still in love with the beauty of the family. They labor and struggle, but they exist. This is why International Family News is here today.
“IFamNews” is here born today to witness this difference, to give it a voice and to support it, while at the same time, duly alarmed, denouncing everything that is wrong. Our professionality cannot, in fact, blind our eyes and prevent us from seeing the road to destruction that mankind is now walking. The only real ecology is human ecology—and we haven’t given up yet.
“IFamNews” will strive to tell the truth every day and to contribute, in its small way, to make the repulsion of this culture of death and destruction grow in the world, starting within our families, among our friends, in our communities, in and for our countries. We are in fact convinced that there is still beauty to fight for and that good still exists in this world.
Our duty is to inform, and we will always try to do it at our best.
This fascinating daily adventure—which I have been honored to be called to supervise as Editor-in-Chief—will never be possible without each and all of you. Personally, I will carry it on animated by one and only conviction, roundly expressed by a passage in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: “…[i]t is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.”
As to the rest, welcome.
