On February 15, 2023, an employee from Everett Health Center – Planned Parenthood in Everett, Washington, called 911 after a surgical abortion procedure resulted in a possible perforation requiring hospitalization. The employee specified that the patient needed basic life support (BLS) transport, which is typically used for non-emergency cases and does not involve advanced medical procedures or interventions. In the case of a perforated uterus, which can cause severe blood loss and life-threatening complications, immediate surgical intervention is necessary.
It is unclear whether the caller lacked medical training or deliberately downplayed the seriousness of the situation. Pro-life bystanders captured a photo showing the woman being wheeled into an ambulance, with Planned Parenthood employees using umbrellas to obstruct the view.
The woman reached the hospital emergency room within 24 minutes of the 911 call, but it is unknown whether her injuries required a hysterectomy, potentially leaving her unable to bear children. As abortion injuries continue to rise, it becomes increasingly evident that abortion is not a safe or effective form of healthcare, putting both mothers and babies at risk.
