SIGN THE PETITION DEMANDING AN APOLOGY FROM COREY JOHNSON<\/a><\/div>\n\n

No place in America has been as hard hit with the\ncoronavirus crisis as has New York City. So concerned were city leaders about\nthe likelihood of cases far surpassing the capacity of local hospitals to\nhandle, they put out an emergency call for help to personnel and facilities across\nthe country to urgently come to their aid. The Christian group Samaritan\u2019s\nPurse did just that, setting up a mobile field hospital in Central Park where\nthey have treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients and helped them recover.<\/p>\n\n

In response to this kindness, Samaritan\u2019s Purse has been\nslapped in the face by Corey Johnson, Speaker of the New York City Council and\na homosexual activist, and his allies in the LGBT community.\u00a0 Using harsh invective, they\u2019ve issued a\ndemand that the charity, headed by Rev. Franklin Graham, get out of town\nimmediately. <\/p>\n\n

\u201c[Samaritan\u2019s Purse], led by the\nnotoriously bigoted, hate-spewing Franklin Graham, came at a time when our city\ncouldn’t in good conscience turn away any offer of help. That time has passed,\u201d\nJohnson\u00a0wrote on Twitter this week.\n\u201cTheir continued presence here is an affront to our values of inclusion, and is\npainful for all New Yorkers who care deeply about the LGBTQ community.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n

Values of inclusion? To prove their commitment to inclusion they exclude<\/strong><\/em> people and groups that they themselves begged for help.<\/p>\n\n

What Johnson and his allies in the\nintolerant LGBT community find so offensive is the belief by Rev. Graham and\nSamaritan\u2019s Purse in the biblical understanding of marriage as being exclusively\nthe union of one man and one woman. The charity does not discriminate in who\nthey serve \u2013 all are welcome and served regardless of sexual orientation or\nbelief. But as faithful Christians, the leaders and staff of the nonprofit\ngroup all subscribe to a biblical worldview of marriage.<\/p>\n\n

The American people believe in\nmarriage as the union of a man and a woman. It\u2019s common these days for the\nmedia and the elites to cite dubious poll numbers purporting to show that\nvoters are now in support of so-called gay \u201cmarriage.\u201d But polls like these on\nsensitive cultural issues are very frequently wrong, as voters do not wish to\nput themselves in the midst of a cultural firestorm by going against prevailing\nwinds.\u00a0 What we know from actual\nelections \u2013 dozens of them in the US \u2013 is that when voters had the chance to\ndirectly express themselves, over 50 million cast ballots in favor of\nmaintaining marriage exclusively as the union of a man and a woman.<\/p>\n\n

Regardless of your view of\nmarriage, every person of good will should be outraged by what is happening in\nNew York City. While pretending to stand for the values of \u201cinclusion,\u201d the\nCouncil Speaker and his allies in the LGBT community have insulted and excluded\nall Americans who believe in the universal understanding of marriage as the\nunion of one man and one woman.<\/p>\n\n

Corey\nJohnson is not the only LGBT figure in New York City to demand that Samaritan\u2019s\nPurse be kicked out of town, and that those who believe in traditional marriage\nare guilty of bigotry. \u201cWe want New Yorkers to know that they have been sold\ndown the river by their officials and leaders who have not cared about them in\nbringing bigotry into the city,\u201d said Ann Northrop, a member of the so-called\nReclaim Pride coalition which held a protest this week at the Samaritan\u2019s Purse\nfield hospital even as they were caring for COVID-19 patients. \u201cSamaritan\u2019s Purse will be gone from New York within two weeks,\u201d said\nNatalie James, the coalition\u2019s co-founder. \u201cWe are very relieved and consider\nthis to be a victory of the LGBT community and other oppressed groups.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Some \u00abvictory.\u00bb Samaritan\u2019s Purse and Rev. Franklin Graham should be given a key to the city, not given the boot.\u00a0 They were asked for help. They came, they served, they saved lives. They should be thanked for their sacrificial help by a grateful city. Differing views about marriage, or any other issue, should have nothing to do with dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Shame on New York City leaders like Corey Johnson and groups like the Reclaim Pride Coalition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
