The Council of the State Duma responded quickly in drafting an <a href=\"http:\/\/duma.gov.ru\/news\/52023\/\" target=\"_blank\">official statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives of various political factions in the Council of the State Duma were unanimous in firmly opposing the ECHR\u2019s move. The Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin commented on the ECHR\u2019s demands saying, &#8220;that is the imposition of the so-called \u201cvalues\u201d that are foreign to us. We will not implement the decision which is contrary to our Constitution.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-statement-by-the-council-of-the-state-duma-of-the-federal-assembly-of-the-russian-federation\"><strong>STATEMENT BY THE COUNCIL OF THE STATE DUMA OF THE FEDERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-on-the-judgment-of-the-european-court-of-human-rights-requiring-recognition-of-same-sex-marriages-in-the-russian-federation\"><strong>On the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights requiring recognition of same-sex marriages in the Russian Federation<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The demand of the European Court of Human Rights contradicts Article 72 in Russia&#8217;s Constitution which is unambiguous in treating marriage as a union of a man and a woman, and clearly upholds the morality, historical traditions, and the socio-cultural code of all peoples who call Russia home.<\/p><p>Before passing a decision contradicting the laws of the Russian Federation, judges of the European Court of Human Rights should have studied the domestic legislation of the relevant country.<\/p><p>We, the representatives of various political factions in the Council of the State Duma, guided by the interests of our citizens, firmly oppose blatant interference in the internal affairs of our state and imposition of the so-called \u201cvalues\u201d which are foreign to the Russian people.<\/p><p>We solemnly declare that acting in accordance with Article 79 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, we will not implement this decision of the European Court of Human Rights.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This is an unofficial translation provided by iFamNews Russia.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last updated on August 6th, 2021 at 05:09 am On July 13, the European Court of Human Rights stated that Russia has a positive obligation to develop a legal framework to acknowledge and protect same-sex unions.
