{"id":83090,"date":"2021-07-18T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-18T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifamnews.com\/?p=83090"},"modified":"2021-07-19T10:17:44","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T14:17:44","slug":"mati-report-some-in-the-eu-say-no","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifamnews.com\/en\/mati-report-some-in-the-eu-say-no","title":{"rendered":"Mati\u0107 Report: some in the EU say NO!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"last-updated\">Last updated on July 19th, 2021 at 10:17 am<\/p>\n<p>On 23 June, the European Parliament gave an eloquent signal. <a href=\"https:\/\/ifamnews.com\/it\/rapporto-mati-ecco-chi-ha-votato-a-favore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">By approving<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/A-9-2021-0169_IT.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mati\u0107 Report<\/a>, it announced that the much-hyped &#8220;values&#8221; of the European Union are abortion as a <a href=\"https:\/\/ifamnews.com\/it\/-rapporto-mati-l-aborto-come-diritto-umano-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;human right&#8221;<\/a> and gender ideology. Of course, the approval of such a text does not carry legislative weight, since these matters are the responsibility of individual member countries, but it does carry great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifamnews.com\/it\/se-l-aborto-un-diritto-cos-un-torto-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">symbolic weight<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-slovak-resolution\"><strong>The Slovak resolution<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some EU countries, however, have no intention of being represented by a pro-abortion, pro-gender EU institution. This is the case in Slovakia. On 17 June, a few days before the vote on the Mati\u0107 Report in Brussels, the Slovak Parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/short_news\/slovak-parliament-rejects-eu-parliaments-sexual-health-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adopted a resolution<\/a> distancing itself from the contestable Report and reaffirming that there can be no EU interference in this matter. Before being put up for vote, the Mati\u0107 Report was approved on 11 May by the European Parliament&#8217;s Committee on Women&#8217;s Rights and Gender Equality. Shortly thereafter, a group of members of the Slovak Parliament proposed this resolution opposing the contents of the Mati\u0107 Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-polish-petition\"><strong>The Polish petition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We cross the northern border of Slovakia and enter Poland, where the campaign against the Mati\u0107 Report has been launched by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.ordoiuris.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ordo Iuris<\/a>, an association of jurists also accredited to the European Parliament, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifamnews.com\/it\/-in-polonia-i-veri-perseguitati-sono-i-cristiani-non-gli-lgbt-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iFamNews has already covered<\/a>. Polish lawyers have launched <a href=\"https:\/\/stopmaticreport.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a petition<\/a> in which they call the Mati\u0107 Report &#8220;an attack on fundamental human rights, including the freedom of speech, protection of life and the sovereignty of EU member states&#8221;. Ordo Iuris recalls the importance of civic engagement; in 2014 it was possible to reject the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempi.it\/il-parlamento-europeo-boccia-in-via-definitiva-il-rapporto-estrela-pro-aborto-e-gender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Estrela Report<\/a> (a predecessor to the Mati\u0107 Report) thanks to the opposition of large parts of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-against-the-impositions-of-the-eu\"><strong>Against the impositions of the EU<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ordo Iuris&#8217; petition was presented during a conference of an international coalition entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/en.ordoiuris.pl\/family-and-marriage\/stop-imposition-reproductive-and-sexual-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stop Mati\u0107 Report<\/a>. &#8220;We invite all non-governmental organizations, political leaders, scientists and citizens interested in the protection of fundamental human rights and the future of Europe to join our initiative,&#8221; explained Karolina Paw\u0142owska, director of the Ordo Iuris International Law Centre. She added: &#8220;We must not allow the EU to illegally extend its competences and use its institutions to impose radical solutions on member countries.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-citizengo-petition\"><strong>CitizenGo petition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another collection of signatures to stop the Mati\u0107 Report was launched on 4 June by <a href=\"https:\/\/citizengo.org\/it\/lf\/202891-il-parlamento-europeo-vuole-dichiarare-laborto-un-diritto-umano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CitizenGo<\/a>: in less than a month more than 405,000 signatures have already been received. The text of the petition lists the five points that make the Mati\u0107 Report \u2013 it says \u2013 &#8220;the worst document we have ever dealt with.&#8221; Churches are also on the defense. The COMECE (Commission of the Bishops&#8217; Conferences of the European Union), in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comece.eu\/dl\/skkNJKJKkLlLJqx4KJK\/2021-06-17_EN_Statement_Matic_Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a document dated 17 June<\/a>, gave a long list of violations of the Mati\u0107 Report against the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
