His Labour government holds a comfortable parliamentary majority and polls suggest it is on track for a record fourth consecutive term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Labour government has already broken ranks on one issue \u2014 pledging on May 15 to hold a referendum on voluntary assisted euthanasia if re-elected, while remaining silent on abortion. As of May 22, four of the six parties had responded to the Life Network Foundation&#8217;s questionnaire. The foundation has pledged to publish all responses or publicly note which parties refused to answer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Malta&#8217;s constitution explicitly names Catholicism as the state religion, the nation&#8217;s legal framework includes a near-total prohibition on abortion. Treatment for ectopic pregnancies is permitted. Malta remains one of the last countries in Europe where the unborn are legally protected.
