A major new study has delivered what critics are calling the final collapse of the \u201ctransgender house of cards\u201d \u2014 proving that puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and other medical interventions for gender-dysphoric minors do nothing to reduce psychiatric problems and appear to make them significantly worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The large Finnish register study, published earlier this month in the journal Acta Paediatrica, tracked gender-referred adolescents from 1996 to 2019. It found that these youth already suffered severe psychiatric morbidity long before any medical transition began. Before referral to gender clinics, 45.7% of the gender-dysphoric group required psychiatric treatment \u2014 compared to just 15% of matched controls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than two years after referral, the rate had risen to 61.7% for the gender-referred adolescents versus 14.6% for controls.Among those who actually received medical gender reassignment (cross-sex hormones or surgery), psychiatric needs increased sharply. For example, in the feminizing-treatment group, psychiatric morbidity jumped from 9.8% to 60.7%.The researchers\u2019 conclusion was unambiguous: \u201cPsychiatric needs do not subside\u201d following the treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Writing in National Review, endocrinologist Dr. Roy Eappen argues that the findings demolish the central justification for the child sex-change industry \u2014 the claim that these interventions are medically necessary and life-saving.
