Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel tried to frame himself as a champion of free speech and issued tearful statements after backlash over comments about the assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk. Kirk’s team isn’t buying it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andrew Kolvet, spokesperson for Turning Point USA and executive producer of The Charlie Kirk Show<\/em>, fired back on X that Kimmel\u2019s emotional monologue was really about saving his own career, not doing right by Kirk. \u201cKimmel is an unrepentant liar who tried to blame Charlie\u2019s assassination on the part of the country that just spent the last 2 weeks praying and holding vigils,\u201d he wrote. Kolvet accused Kimmel of continuing to slander conservatives under the guise of remorse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another friend of Kirk, Jack Posobiec, fanned the same fire, alleging Kimmel was \u201crunning cover\u201d by refusing to name the suspect\u2019s motives or background. Posobiec criticized Kimmel\u2019s lack of transparency as telling. Meanwhile, earlier in the week, Kimmel blamed the MAGA movement for political violence\u2014despite authorities clearly stating the suspect isn\u2019t linked to that group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During his televised response, Kimmel claimed he never intended to trivialize Kirk\u2019s murder or blame any particular group. He insisted that the shooter was a \u201csick person\u201d acting alone. Kimmel also simultaneously implied government interference in his show\u2019s suspension and accused Trump of enjoying the fallout. Those lines muddled his apology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Kimmel’s tears do not reflect genuine sorrow, but a last-ditch PR attempt.
