On August 1st, New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte signed two bills protecting children from gender transitioning procedures, such as puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and gender mutilation surgeries. \u201cMedical decisions made at a young age can carry lifelong consequences, and these bills represent a balanced, bipartisan effort to protect children,\u201d Ayotte said in a statement. The bills recived overwhelming public support, with polling data showing that 69% of voters approved of the bans, as opposed to just 16% opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first bill, HB 377, bans the use of puberty blockers and cross-hormone therapies, while the second bill, HB 712, restricts breast surgeries for minors to those resulting from injury, infection, and like cases. HB 712 explicitly bans transgender breast surgeries and hysterectomies as part of transgender surgeries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Republican lawmakers celebrated the new restrictions as necessary safeguards.
