Federal data recently revealed a significant drop in illegal border crossings under President Trump’s intensified crackdown. Custom and Border Protection (CBP) reported a 90% decrease in daily crossings, with an estimated 359 illegal migrants being processed daily.<\/p>\n
The internal documents shared with the New York Post confirm that CBP recorded 3,953 illegal migrant encounters until February 11. Based on these figures, the total crossings for the month may be around 10,000, a figure similar to the lowest monthly tally of April 2017.<\/p>\n
Experts like John Gramlich, Associate Director at the Pew Research Center, acknowledged the substantial decrease in figures. Furthermore, Mark Krikorian, Executive Director at the Center for Immigration Studies, pointed out that these are the lowest numbers recorded since the 1960s.<\/p>\n
Trump’s intensified crackdown involved ramping up operations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, resulting in 11,000 arrests of illegal migrants in just 18 days. As stated by Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks, stronger leadership has empowered agents to secure the border.<\/p>\n
The administration complemented policy changes with collaboration from Mexico, which deployed 10,000 troops to its northern border in response to tariff threats by the White House. The administration has also implemented several other measures, including ending “catch and release”, restarting deportation flights to Venezuela, and transferring certain criminal offenders to Guantanamo Bay.
