The DC Public Library is set to host a Children\u2019s Pride Parade, aimed at babies, toddlers, children, and teens, in Washington, D.C. this Saturday. This celebration is primarily for LGBTQ kids and their families, as it aims to affirm community support for them. In preparation for this event, called the 2023 Georgetown Neighborhood Library Children\u2019s Pride Parade, the local police are readying to implement parking restrictions and street closures. The event is organized by Georgetown, Palisades, and Tenley branches of the DC Public Library and encourages young participants to dress in colorful costumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unlike many other events organized by the DC Public Library, the Pride Parade hasn’t been widely advertised online or on social media platforms. However, media relations manager George Williams affirmed that the event has been promoted at the community level, as is the custom with the DC Public Library. A notice was circulated among the library’s Dupont Listserve to promote the parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flyer provided to The Daily Signal outlines the objectives of the parade. It aims to create a Pride event dedicated to children who are coming out at a younger age, as well as provide an inclusive platform for families irrespective of their members’ gender or sexual identities. The flyer also states that the parade aims to be a community celebration of diversity and inclusion, especially in terms of gender and sexuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DC Public Library is also hosting other events such as \u201cAn Evening with Chasten Buttigieg\u201d, where Buttigieg, who is openly gay, will discuss his coming-out journey. The objective of the event is to assure young people that they are not alone and inspire them to forge their own paths to acceptance. Other events include “Rainbow Pride Wand Take-Home Kit” for children between 5 to 12 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An archived post from Georgetown Metropolitan, which was reportedly removed later, revealed that the parade will commence from Montrose Park and conclude at the library. The post encouraged children of all ages to join and show support for LGBTQ kids and their families.
