To their everlasting credit, when the\nAmerican Founders put their lives on the line to declare independence, they\nspoke not just for Americans but for all humanity: \u201cWe hold these\ntruths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are\nendowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are\nLife, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.\u201d Jefferson later wrote, \u201cIt is impossible not to be sensible\nthat we are acting for all mankind,\u201d and expressed hope that the Declaration would\nbe a beacon shining far beyond the borders of America: \u201cMay it be to the world,\nwhat I believe it will be, the signal for arousing men to burst the chains\nunder which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind\nthemselves, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government. All\neyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man.\u201d Tom Paine would reflect\nthat \u201cAmerica made a stand, not for herself only, but for the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly two and a half centuries later,\nlife and liberty are under worldwide attack as the European Union and powerful\nNGOs seek to promote abortion and curtail religious liberty through the power\nof the United Nations\u2014and do so under the deceptive banner of rights. \u201cThis revolution in manners and morals,\u201d Pope\nFrancis emphasized, \u201chas often flown the flag of freedom but in fact it has\nbrought spiritual and material devastation to countless human beings.\u201d Fortunately,\nas happened with the American Founders, the United States is once again making\na stand for life and liberty, not for herself only, but for the world. On September\n25, 2019, President Donald J. Trump made history when he declared<\/a>\nto the UN General Assembly that \u201cevery\nchild\u2014 born and unborn\u2014 is a sacred gift from God,\u201d and that Americans will \u201cnever\ntire of defending innocent life\u2026 Global bureaucrats have absolutely no business\nattacking the sovereignty of nations that wish to protect innocent life.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His words\nwere followed by action, as noted in his January 21 Proclamation\non National Sanctity of Human Life Day, 2020<\/a>: \u201cMy Administration is also\nbuilding an international coalition to dispel the concept of abortion as a\nfundamental human right. So far, 24 nations representing more than a billion\npeople have joined this important cause\u2026 [W]e will never tire of defending innocent\nlife\u2014 at home or abroad.\u201d Then in a letter<\/a>\nissued May 18 from USAID to Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, the United\nStates reminded him of its massive funding being provided to the UN, and\nstarkly warned that \u201cthe UN should not intimidate or coerce Member States that\nare committed to the right to life\u2026 The United States stands with nations that\nhave pledged to protect the unborn.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump\nAdministration is no less adamant in championing religious freedom, as when the\nPresident hosted the\nhistoric Global\nCall to Protect Religious Freedom<\/a> on September 23, 2019 at the UN General\nAssembly, and declared, \u201cOur Founders understood that no right is more\nfundamental to a peaceful, prosperous, and virtuous society than the right to\nfollow one\u2019s religious convictions.\u201d He then pledged $25 million to protect\nreligious freedom and religious sites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in his Executive\nOrder on Advancing International Religious Freedom<\/a> on June 2, 2020, President\nTrump directed funding for programs that promote religious freedom abroad, and\ncalled for diplomats to raise concerns with partner countries over religious\ndiscrimination. \u201cReligious freedom, America\u2019s first freedom,\u201d he proclaimed, \u201cis\na moral and national security imperative. Religious freedom for all people\nworldwide is a foreign policy priority of the United States, and the United\nStates will respect and vigorously promote this freedom\u2026 [O]ur Founders\nunderstood religious freedom not as a creation of the state, but as a gift of\nGod to every person and a right that is fundamental for the flourishing of our\nsociety.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As IOF works with leaders around the\nglobe in defense of family, life, and liberty, we applaud the leadership of the\nTrump Administration in carrying on the legacy of the Founders to make a stand\nfor America and the world. We also urge escalation of the effort to counter the\nmassive opposition in the UN, and we echo the President\u2019s plea in his Executive\nOrder asking \u201call nations to join us in this urgent moral duty.\u201d At stake are\nthe God-given rights for which the Founders were willing to give their lives.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
