The Tavistock Gender Clinic in London is facing a wave of lawsuits from more than 1,000 families whose children received cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers as part of a trans-affirmative treatment approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tavistock clinic has come under criticism in the wake of an independent investigation. The study report criticized the lack of safe and valid data on the effectiveness and safety of prescribing hormones to gender-dysphoric adolescents. Some doctors have expressed feeling “pressured” to give children hormones (as IFamNews has reported<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Goodhead, an attorney with the international law firm Pogust Goodhead, who will represent the families, criticized the clinic for fast-tracking teens, misdiagnosing and mishandling them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These children have suffered life-altering and, in some cases, irreversible effects of treatment that has resulted in long-term physical and psychological consequences for them. We must not stifle the debate for fear of discussing gender identity, and those responsible must be held accountable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an attempt to defend itself, the Tavistock clinic stated that each person was treated individually “without making assumptions about which path was right for them, and that only a minority of the young people who present take up any of the physical treatments during their stay with us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law firm is considering suing not only the Tavistock Clinic, but also the national health care provider NHS <\/em>, which commissioned the clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
