Indeed, it has recently adopted two policies that clearly show its commitment to discrimination. First, last year McDonald\u2019s dedicated $250 million over the next five years to increase ownership of McDonald\u2019s franchises by non-white people. If you are white, you are not eligible for the program. Period. Second, the company just adopted a policy of not favoring the family members of current franchisees when awarding new franchises. Why did it adopt this policy? Specifically because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/06\/23\/mcdonalds-simplifies-franchising-policies-to-attract-more-diverse-candidates.html\">too many white people<\/a> took advantage of this policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of these and other actions, franchise owners have staged a revolt against McDonald\u2019s corporate leadership. As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/07\/18\/mcdonalds-franchise-owners-back-no-confidence-vote-on-ceo-survey-says.html\">CNBC<\/a>, in a poll conducted by the National Owners Association, an independent McDonald\u2019s franchisee advocacy group composed of about 1,000 members, 87% of respondents want a call for a \u201cno-confidence\u201d vote in McDonald\u2019s CEO Chris Kempczinski (incidentally, my cousin) and U.S. Operations President Joe Erlinger. In addition, 95% of respondents feel that corporate leadership does not have their best interests in mind in regard to franchising and 71% believe that potential new franchisees should not be treated the same as existing or legacy franchisees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s hope that the voices of the franchisees\u2014who own 95% of McDonalds restaurants\u2014will be heeded.
