April 30\nmarks the anniversary of the 1863 observance of the Day of National Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer, as called for by\nPresident Abraham Lincoln a month earlier. The Civil War had ravaged the\ndivided nation for two years, and the possibility of preserving the Union\nlooked increasingly dim in light of recent setbacks such as resistance\nto a national conscription, widespread desertions from the army, and a failed\nattempt to take Vicksburg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At that\ncritical time, President Lincoln proclaimed, \u201cWe have been the recipients of\nthe choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved these many years in\npeace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power\u2026. But we have\nforgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace\nand multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined,\nin the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by\nsome superior wisdom and virtue of our own\u2026. It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to\nconfess our national sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On April\n27, 2020, Princeton Professor Robert George reminded the world of President\nLincoln\u2019s proclamation and suggested that this April 30 would be an opportune\ntime for another day of prayer, fasting, and repentance. He was speaking in a\nwebinar hosted by the Heritage Foundation on \u201cFaith and Hope in Crisis,\u201d whose\nother guests concurred. It is a time for repentance, urged both Villanova\nProfessor Daniel Mark and Bishop Vincent Matthews, the latter adding that we\nmust get back to the basics, back to family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Such\nclarion calls to strengthen faith and family stand in sharp contrast to the brazen\nattempt by purveyors of \u201csexual and reproductive rights\u201d to exploit the\nCOVID-19 crisis for their own ends, utilizing the strategy once articulated by\nRahm Emanuel, White House Chief of Staff under Barack Obama: \u201cYou never want a\nserious crisis to go to waste.\u201d So it is with one of the most influential NGOs\nin the United Nations, International Planned Parenthood Federation, whose Director General, Alvaro Bermejo, recently lamented\nthat the worldwide pandemic has diminished his organization\u2019s ability to\nprovide abortion on demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe COVID-19 pandemic is a health crisis across\nevery setting,\u201d said Bermejo, \u201cand that includes sexual and reproductive\nhealthcare.\u201d The statement was published on April 9 by OpenDemocracy, the\npropaganda vehicle of George Soros, in an article titled \u201cMillions may struggle\nto access contraception and abortion amidst COVID-19.\u201d The party line continues\nto be repeated, as on April 26 when UN Resident Coordinator to Kenya, Siddharth\nChatterjee, bemoaned that \u201cwomen\u2019s sexual reproductive health and rights just\ntook several steps backward in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
