Spain: Supreme Court condemns abortion centers for misleading advertisements that conceal after-effects of abortion

The Supreme Court confirms the sentence of the Provincial Court of Oviedo that condemned ACAI, the employers' association that groups 32 Spanish abortion centers, for assuring the audience that abortion is a risk-free practice.

The Supreme Court upheld the judgment of the Provincial Court of Oviedo that condemned ACAI, the abortion center employers’ association, for misleading advertisements which assured the audience that abortion is a risk-free practice.

The High Court thus agrees with the Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers, which denounced ACAI for hiding the consequences of abortion from women.

Now the Supreme Court has confirmed the sentence of the Audiencia that condemned ACAI to pay the costs of the process and to publish the sentence on its web page.

It should be remembered that ACAI brings together most of the centers accredited to perform abortions in Spain. In the Community of Madrid to Clínica Dator, El Bosque, Pacífico, Isadora, Callao, Policlínica Retiro and Sergine Médica; in Cataluña to Clínica Sants, Tutormédica, Casanova, and Centro Médico Aragón; in Andalucía to Clínica Ginealmería, Ginegranada, Ginesur, Ginecenter, Clínicas El Sur, Gynetrisur, Poliplanning and Clínica Triana; in Castilla y León to Clínica BuenaVista; in Comunidad Valenciana to Deia Médica; in Aragón to Clínica Actur; in Asturias to Belladona and Buenavista; in Castilla La Mancha to Clínica Cire and Iris Ginecológica; in Galicia to Clínica Arce and in Murcia to Clínica Ginemur and Deltamédica.

The president of Christian Lawyers, Polonia Castellanos, announces that “in view of the seriousness of the sentence, we will send the sentence to all the Spanish Health Departments so that they can rescind any contract with the abortion centers involved.”

She urged the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, to “to state her opinion regarding this sentence that condemns abortion centers for lying to women.”

Castellanos insists that “subsidies and public money must be taken away from these companies that put women’s lives at risk in order to do business.”

She celebrated the fact that “justice has finally been done against an organization that, for financial gain, has lied to many women by encouraging them to have abortions as if they were completely free from any serious consequences.”
