A recent undercover investigation by Live Action shows that some Planned Parenthood centers are offering cross-sex hormones to minors—sometimes as young as 16—at their very first appointment, even virtually. In several cases, staff allegedly said teens don’t need prior mental health evaluations or parental involvement to receive these treatments.
According to the report, among 33 Planned Parenthood facilities contacted, 7 confirmed they would prescribe hormones immediately. Of those, 5 facilities reportedly indicated they don’t require proof of previous therapy, mental health clearance, or documentation. In one case, a caller posing as a minor was assured she could receive hormones without her mother being present for the entire appointment.
After the Live Action expose, Planned Parenthood did not fully deny that hormones are being provided under these conditions. The organization acknowledged offering what it calls “age-appropriate” gender-affirming care, which can include hormones, but insisted its practices conform to clinical standards.
Detransitioner testimony was also part of the report. One young woman said she was put on testosterone at 16 despite serious mental health history and without adequate warning of lifelong effects like sterility, voice changes, and other irreversible impacts. Offering such treatments so quickly, with little screening, carries high risk. With the Trump administration cracking down on Planned Parenthood and other organizations promoting transgender ideology, this report should result in federal action taken against Planned Parenthood.
