Pro-life groups criticize Biden’s $25 mn ad campaign targeting Republican candidates’ pro-life stances

Pro-life groups have responded to President Joe Biden’s $25 million ad campaign, which highlights the Republican candidates’ pro-life stances. The ad criticizes Republican presidential candidates, emphasizing that decisions about one’s body should be made by the individual, not the government.

The Catholic advocacy group Catholic Vote criticized the Biden campaign for claiming that Republicans are extreme. Biden has pledged to sign the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would legalize abortion in all 50 states up to the point of fetal viability. However, the medical consensus on when viability begins is not clear and the viability threshold has changed many times so far due to medical advances that enable the survival of babies born as early as 21 or 22 weeks.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life advocacy group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, pointed out that Biden used to support some limitations on abortion but has now shifted further left on the issue. Dannenfelser criticized the Democrats for blocking protections for babies born alive during failed abortions.

The response from these pro-life groups highlights their opposition to the Democratic party’s stance on abortion, criticizing Biden for aligning with the radical abortion lobby and supporting abortion on demand. They argue that Democrats need to be transparent about where they draw the line on abortion and emphasize the need for common-sense limits.

Catholic Vote criticized the campaign and tweeted: “A ‘Catholic’ president supports destroying innocent lives for any reason, at any time, paid for by taxpayers. Zero restrictions includes late term abortions, aborting babies that feel pain, even killing babies that survive an abortion. Women deserve better than to be used as a pawn in a political campaign.”

In response to the criticism, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tweeted that “no one supports abortion up until birth,” despite instances where Democrats have clearly supported such measures in the past.

The ad campaign and the subsequent reactions from pro-life groups demonstrate the ongoing debate and division surrounding abortion rights in the United States.
