Hundreds of pro-life activists are planning a major protest outside the UK Parliament as lawmakers prepare to discuss possible amendments to the Criminal Justice Bill that could decriminalize abortion up to birth. If passed, this would be the most significant change in abortion laws since the Abortion Act of 1967.
The proposal includes two amendments that, if made into law, would completely decriminalize abortion, potentially enabling sex-selective abortions and put women and unborn children at risk from unsafe medicines and procedures.
The protest has been mobilized by a coalition of pro-life groups, including Abortion Resistance, ADF UK, CBR UK, Christian Concern, CitizenGO, Good Counsel Network, March for Life, Rachel’s Vineyard, SPUC, Voice for Justice UK, 40 Days for Life, and more. The groups are united in their stand against potential legislation permitting sex-selective abortions and late-term abortions.
Ahead of the rally, pro-life group leaders collectively expressed their concerns. Eden McCourt of Abortion Resistance emphasized the extremity of abortion up to birth, whereas Lois McLatchie Miller from ADF UK stressed the importance of humane society actions to prevent such trauma. Moreover, Madeline Page from Alliance of Pro-Life Students expressed deep concerns over the increase in home abortions.
The alternative options suggested by the pro-life advocates include the support and care for women facing challenging pregnancies rather than late-stage abortions. The protest is set to be a significant demonstration of unity amongst pro-life organizations in their stand against proposed amendments to the Criminal Justice Bill.
