Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr has reiterated his support for full-term abortions in a recent interview. When questioned about his stance on the right to late-term abortions, Kennedy responded by emphasizing that abortion decisions should fall to women, not the government or the states. His unequivocal endorsement of a woman’s right to choose, even in late pregnancy, may not reflect his personal beliefs, but they underpin his political policy.

During the interview, hosted by podcaster Sage Steele, Kennedy returned repeatedly to the notion that the government should not hold sway over a woman’s choice to seek an abortion. Asked if this extended to full-term abortions, Kennedy affirmed his position, believing the choice lies with women, not the state. His stance has drawn attention and intensified the abortion discourse surrounding his campaign.

Interestingly, Kennedy’s pro-choice comments appeared to catch his running mate Nicole Shanahan off-guard. In an earlier podcast episode with the same host, Shanahan had expressed her understanding that Kennedy viewed “every abortion as a tragedy” and believed in “limits on abortion.” However, Kennedy’s recent statement demonstrates a congruent stance his campaign declared last year, underlining his support for abortions with no limitations, even up to birth.
