Poll shows majority of US parents oppose gender ideology in schools

A recent poll from grassroots organization Parents Defending Education (PDE) reveals that a vast majority of US parents across the political spectrum are challenging the introduction of gender ideology in schools. Of those surveyed, 75% opposed school staff withholding information from parents about their child’s gender identity.

The opposition was observed across various demographics, with 88% of Republican parents, 72% of independent parents, and 58% of Democrat parents rejecting this practice. The sentiment was mirrored across ethnicities, including 76% of white parents, 79% of black parents, 69% of Asian parents, and 73% of Hispanic parents.

The survey also found strong parent resistance to trans women participating in girls’ sports teams or using female bathrooms and locker rooms. An overwhelming 78% of parents objected to the practice, including 86% of Republican parents, 80% of independent parents, and 60% of parents who identified as Democrats.

In the same vein, 77% of parents condemned the idea of trans women using female bathrooms and locker rooms. The PDE poll also indicated that 90% of parents believe focusing on core subjects would improve the quality of public education. The survey included 1,000 parents with children 18 years old or younger in their household, conducted between December 12-18, 2024.
