Pakistani man seeking to establish gay club admitted to mental hospital

A Pakistani man, whose identity has been kept anonymous, has been reportedly admitted to a mental hospital after his attempt to establish a gay club in Pakistan.  The man told the Telegraph that he had submitted an application to Abbottabad’s deputy commissioner to set up a gay club, named “Lorenzo Gay Club”.

In his application, he suggested that the club would be beneficial for the gay, bisexual, and potentially some heterosexual individuals residing in Abbottabad and other parts of the country. However, his initiative led to his arrest, and he ended up in a mental institution in Peshawar, more than 100 miles away from Abbottabad.

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Pakistan’s national penal code Section 377 criminalizes homosexual acts.
