North Carolina’s State Representative, Grey Mills, a Republican running for the U.S. House of Representatives, is facing criticism over his tenure as a trustee at Cannon School, a prep school known for the inclusion of controversial LGBTQ and other ‘woke’ literature in its curriculum. Mills, who served on the board from 2020-2021, has been identified as a significant donor to the school.

Despite supporting anti-‘woke’ initiatives in the state legislature, Mills did not publicly address the controversial book selections at Cannon School during his trusteeship. The books, featured on multiple summer reading lists during Mills’ term, include “Pink is For Boys,” sold in a “queer marketplace,” advocating for gender nonconformity among children, and “Illegal,” examining illegal immigration favorably.

However, Mills’ campaign has condemned the attacks, linking them to electoral opponent Pat Harrigan. According to a source, trustees at Cannon School are not involved in curricular decisions but rather focus on the institution’s financial management. Mills is running to represent North Carolina’s staunchly Republican 10th Congressional District, currently held by Rep. Patrick McHenry.
