Nobel laureate explains: transgender ideology is “unscientific wishful thinking”, “madness”

She said it is absolutely clear that transgender people should not be discriminated against. "But they can't impose their ideas on everyone as facts. (...) This mixture of sensitivities and moral arrogance coupled with ignorance is simply fatal," the biologist said in the interview.

Biologist and Nobel Prize winner for physiology and medicine Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard said in an interview with EMMA magazine that gender ideology is “unscientific.”

There are two sexes in all mammals, including humans.

That a biological man can actually become a woman and vice versa is “nonsense! It is wishful thinking.” People cannot change their gender:

“You still remain XY or XX. The crucial thing is that if you have a Y chromosome, it affects the development of the embryo already in pregnancy and, of course, in adolescence as well. Boys therefore have different sex characteristics than girls and this cannot be reversed. People retain their gender throughout their lives,” the biologist said in the interview.

Nüsslein-Volhard calls it “madness” that young people from the age of 14 should be able to determine their own gender in the future. She also answered the question of whether she thought it was right for legislators to allow gender reassignment surgery:

“The legislator cannot enable gender reassignment at all. It only says: This woman may claim from now on that she is a man. And vice versa. The biological basis absolutely cannot be changed.”

The claim stated in a 2017 ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court that gender is co-determined by “social and psychological factors” is “nonsense.”

Nüsslein-Volhard has also resisted the pressure coming from gender ideology advocates. She said it is absolutely clear that transgender people should not be discriminated against. “But they can’t impose their ideas on everyone as facts. (…) This mixture of sensitivities and moral arrogance coupled with ignorance is simply fatal.”
