An Idaho bar, Old State Saloon, is blazing its own path by celebrating June as “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month,” diverting from the typical Pride Month celebrations observed across the country. The Eagle-based bar announced the promotion on its Facebook page, generating substantial support alongside criticism from left-leaning factions.
The promotional offers include a free draft beer for straight men on Mondays and a 15% discount for heterosexual couples on Wednesdays. After the announcement took off, the bar made follow-up posts to manage expectational backlash and outline rules for engagement on its page.
According to one update, Old State Saloon planned to hire a judge to decide if men’s attire was “officially heterosexual” for their Monday promotion. The pay was set at “$15/hr plus free beer” for anyone who could “determine straight threads.”
Despite the mixed reactions and some adverse consequences – such as property theft, suppliers refusing orders, and defamation – Old State Saloon further indicated that it had received significant community support. The bar said the concept aimed at promoting freedom and honoring personal values.
