On March 9 in the National Palace of Guatemala, the historic building used for activities organized by the government, a special ceremony will take place: the country will be officially recognized as “Capital for Life of Iberoamerica”. The event will be attended by the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giamattei, and members of his government and officials from other Latin American states specially invited for this occasion.
Zero cost
On that day, a ten-foot-tall, two-foot-wide monument will be placed in the new “Patio of Life” at the center of the Palace. The design of the monument has not yet been made public, but according to the Ibero-American Congress for Life and Family, the organization that awarded the title to Guatemala, says it will be made of bronze, weighing more than half a ton. The monument was produced in Mexico and will not cost the government anything, as it was funded by private donors.
Day for Life
By presidential decree, the inauguration will coincide with the establishment of the “National Day of Life” in the Central American country, which will therefore be celebrated every March 9. “It’s a courageous example and I hope that countries on the continent will follow suit and also establish a national day to celebrate life,” says Aarón Lara, president of the Ibero-American Congress for Life and the Family.
