Germany: Interim report confirms child abuse by Helmut Kentler

The Berlin Youth Welfare Office could be identified as "a central location" that facilitated sexualized assaults as an infrastructure, the report said. However, the network extends well beyond Berlin.

Helmut Kentler (1928 - 2008).

The interim report by the University of Hildesheim on the work of the sex researcher Helmut Kentler, who died in 2008 and worked in the Berlin youth welfare system has confirmed that Kentler himself sexually abused children. Beginning in the late 1960s, Kentler had placed boys entrusted to the Berlin Youth Welfare Office with pedophiles known to him (as IFamNews has reported).

In the course of preparing the report, victims were also interviewed and they disclosed the abuse by Kentler:

“The person concerned reported that during this time with Helmut Kentler, he and the other young people were subjected to massive assaults and sexualized violence by Helmut Kentler himself. In particular, Helmut Kentler referred to young people between the ages of 10 and 14 as ‘his favorites’. However, the affected person’s calls for help were ignored by the family. It was only when the person concerned became older that he was able to defend himself against Helmut Kentler’s assaults by ‘hitting’ him. From that point on, Helmut Kentler agreed that the person concerned should be returned to his own family,” the university paper states.

The interim report states that the Landejugendamt Berlin can be identified as “a central location” that facilitated sexualized assaults as an infrastructure. The pedo-sexual network, however, extended well beyond Berlin “into various regions of western Germany and was able to get linked up with various infrastructures of child and youth welfare, universities, or the Protestant church, and through these also to normalize itself publicly or immunize itself against inquiries.”
