Former US President Donald Trump has selected Senator J.D. Vance, a Catholic from Ohio, to be his Vice Presidential running mate in the upcoming 2024 election. Trump praised Vance’s dedication to the American workers and farmers, acknowledging his service to the country as a Marine Corps vet, a graduate of Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and an active advocate for struggling blue-collar workers.

The main points highlighted included Vance’s conversion to Catholicism and his strong pro-life stance. Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who previously ran against Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries, expressed admiration for Vance’s selection, considering it the most formidable political ticket of his lifetime.

David Sacks, a technology investor, and former Democratic donor, praised Vance’s courage and wisdom, celebrating his military service but also his disapproval of the “Forever Wars.” Sacks joined many other prominent Republicans, including Vivek Ramaswamy and Ben Carson, in applauding the Trump/Vance ticket.

The appointment of Vance, if successful, could lead to a potential shuffle in the Senate. Vance’s term does not end until 2028, so Ohio Governor Mike DeWine would need to appoint a successor if Vance wins the Vice Presidency. Several commentators suggested Ramaswamy might take over in that scenario.
