Detransitioning woman files lawsuit in North Carolina alleging harm from gender transition process

Prisha Mosley, a 25-year-old detransitioning woman formerly known as Charlie Mosley, has filed a groundbreaking lawsuit in North Carolina. In the lawsuit, Mosley names her therapists, physician, surgeon, and their respective medical facilities as defendants, accusing them of causing harm during her gender transition process. Mosley alleges that the medical professionals involved committed various acts of fraud, medical malpractice, emotional distress, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.

The lawsuit marks the first of its kind in North Carolina, highlighting the unique legal challenges faced by individuals who regret their earlier gender transition. Mosley’s struggle with mental health dates back to childhood, worsened by a sexual assault at the age of 14 and a subsequent miscarriage. By the time she was 15, she had already been hospitalized for depression. At 16, Mosley received diagnoses of major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and an eating disorder. Self-harm, including cutting, led to a visit to the emergency room.

The defendants in the lawsuit include Dr. Eric T. Emerson, Piedmont Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, Brie Klein-Fowler, Family Solutions, Shana Gordon, Tree of Life Counseling, Dr. Martha Fairbanks Perry, and Moses Cone Medical Services. Mosley’s legal action asserts that these medical professionals failed to prioritize her mental and physical well-being during her formative years, causing harm throughout the gender reassignment process.

This lawsuit sheds light on the growing controversy surrounding gender transition and the long-term consequences of such medical interventions. Detransitioning individuals, like Prisha Mosley, often face unique challenges as they wrestle with regret. The outcome of this lawsuit may have significant implications for the medical community and the legal framework surrounding gender transition procedures.
