The individual, Anne Andres, a biological male who identifies as a female, outperformed female competitors by over 450 pounds (200 kilograms) in the Female Masters Unequipped category.
Gaines took issue with Andres’ remarks mocking women in the sport, highlighting the physiological advantages that males may have over females due to things like male puberty and testosterone levels. She emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating women’s unique physical capabilities while acknowledging the differences between men and women.
April Hutchinson, a Canadian competitive powerlifter, thanked Gaines for speaking out against biological males competing in women’s sports. She expressed her disappointment with the current situation in her sport and called for an end to the discrimination against female athletes.
Scientific research consistently demonstrates that physical differences between males and females give males an advantage in most sports, even when cross-sex hormones are used.
