Spanish Lawyers file complaint against the designer of blasphemous drag queen costume

"No so-called artistic freedom can gratuitously injure the sacredness of beliefs, which violates a fundamental right," said the Diocese.

The Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers has filed a criminal complaint before an examining magistrate’s court in Logroño against Lucía Morras, the author of the design called “the Virgin of Logroño”, winner of the Drag Gala held last June.

The lawyers’ organization also requested precautionary measures to prevent the drag queen dressed in this costume from appearing in the “Pride” event held in the capital of La Rioja on June 24.

Christian Lawyers considers that the author of the design may have committed a crime of offense against religious feelings (Article 525.1 of the Criminal Code) and another of incitement to hatred and discrimination (Article 510.1, a of the Criminal Code).

The Diocese of Calahorra and La Calzada-Logroño has already expressed its rejection, considering that the costume “constitutes a real offense to Christians”. “No so-called artistic freedom can gratuitously injure the sacredness of beliefs, which violates a fundamental right,” it stated.

The president of the Foundation, Polonia Castellanos said, “We only ask that our faith, our beliefs, our symbols be respected, so that Catholics also feel that Justice is equal for all”.
