A controversial animated adult comedy series has hit the virtual shelves of Amazon Prime, igniting a furor due to its sexually explicit content, vulgar language, and depiction of hellish themes involving characters in the underworld. The series, “Hazbin Hotel,” offers a sympathetic portrayal of Lucifer and features Charlie Morningstar, his offspring, as the protagonist. The plot revolves around Morningstar working to rehabilitate demons to enable their re-entry into Heaven.

One of the episodes attracted particular scrutiny for a musical number featuring a scene relating to gang rape. The series contains various suggestive characters, such as Morningstar’s girlfriend Vaggie, porn star character Angel Dust, and other demonic figures, along with Lucifer himself.

The show’s sexually explicit nature, and dialogue that some viewers interpret as offensive, sparked a backlash on social media. Following a tweet from Amazon Prime featuring the opening scene of the first episode, some users vowed to cancel their subscriptions in protest.

The series seeks to reimagine the biblical narrative and myths, framing Heaven as “heartless” and Lucifer as a benevolent tempter of humanity against oppressive heavenly powers. The creative force behind the series is animator and YouTuber, Vivienne Medrano. Despite the backlash, the series has achieved viral success after the pilot episode garnered nearly 95 million views on YouTube.
