“Bachelor” Star Colton Underwood facing criticism over surrogacy announcement

Former “The Bachelor” star Colton Underwood, who publicly identified as gay in 2021, has announced that he and his husband, Jordan C. Brown, are expecting a baby through surrogacy. Underwood has developed a podcast titled “Daddyhood” as he has been seeking fatherhood for the past two years.

The idea of referring to the egg supplier as an “egg donor” is misleading. The eggs are actually sold, not donated, which is against U.S. laws prohibiting the sale of human tissue.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Underwood stated that he and his husband sought an “egg seller” who is “deep and cool,” believing in nurturing the child with love. This completely diregards childrens need to have a mother, even with supposed “love” from two “dads”.

The process of looking through a catalogue of women to find an egg donor, is comparable to prostitution. The health risks involved for the surrogate following egg retrieval also should not be overlooked.

This process prioritizes the interests of everyone except the child, who will lack connection to their biological mother and be separated from the surrogate immediately after birth.
