Billionaire George Soros is reportedly handing over the reins of his $25 billion empire to his son, Alex Soros, who has openly expressed his commitment to continue his father’s extreme left leaning political and social causes. George Soros’ Open Society Policy Center was found to have donated a massive $140 million to advocacy organizations and ballot initiatives in 2021. In addition, the elder Soros personally contributed over $170 million to Democratic candidates and campaigns for the 2022 midterm elections. The combined total takes Soros’ contributions since January 2020 to approximately $500 million, a majority of which has been directed towards causes aligned with the Democratic Party.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Soros father-son duo confirmed that Alex Soros has been elected to replace his father as chairman of the nonprofit Open Society Foundations and is now president of Soros’ super PAC. He is also part of the investment committee that oversees Soros Fund Management. The fund is expected to allocate the majority of its $25 billion to Open Society Foundations, keeping aside $125 million for the super PAC.
Despite George Soros previously expressing his disinterest in his children inheriting his empire, Alex Soros has asserted his political aspirations, claiming to be even more politically driven than his father. Alex intends to continue supporting liberal causes, including voting rights and abortion rights, making it clear that he is equally invested in his father’s political contributions. He was quoted saying, “As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we will have to do it, too.”
Soros’ influence extends far beyond American politics. Through significant funding, Soros has actively shaped media narratives worldwide to further propagate his leftist ideology. A report released by MRC Business in December 2022 revealed that Soros had financial ties to 253 journalism and activist media groups globally, thereby controlling a significant portion of information flow in national and international politics.
Soros’ radical political activities have sparked controversy and criticism, leading to a largely negative public perception. As Alex Soros steps up to take over his father’s empire, critics anticipate a new adversary to emerge in the political landscape.
